ABSTRACT

Much has been written in recent years about the role and nature of Arab (or OPEC) aid, and the institutions involved. Rather than duplicating those efforts, this chapter will be limited to a brief background and appreciation of Arab aid, and will then focus on the specific aid efforts and administrations of the most important donors: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Attention will also be given to the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) as an example of a multilateral development institution with a coordinating function.
