ABSTRACT
What it is like to walk in North American cities? I wanted to know, hence I visited 23 cities 1 in the United States and Canada in 2012 and 2013, of which nine belonged to the largest metropolitan areas. Eight cities are included in this chapter and another eight in the next one. In all cities discussions with local officers and/or academics took place. Books, articles or discussions with academics and city officials determined the choice of cities.
