ABSTRACT
It is tempting to try to approach the question of nation directly, by aiming for its centre or its origin. And there is almost immediate satisfaction to be had in so doing; for we undoubtedly find narration at the centre of nation: stories of national origins, myths of founding fathers, genealogies of heroes. At the origin of the nation, we find a story of the nation's origin.
