ABSTRACT

The Fade Cue is a core component of controlling cues within the QLab system. A fade is generally understood to be a change in the attributes of a cue over a predetermined period of time. Initially, the purpose of the Fade Cue within QLab was simple; to change the volume settings or to stop an Audio Cue. QLab 3 vastly expands the function of Fade Cues over previous versions in that Fade Cues now have the ability to control a number of different cue types – Mic Cues, Video Cues, Camera Cues, and even Audio Effects within an Audio or Video Cue. In general, for audio-related cues a Fade Cue will affect volume levels, whereas with video-related cues a Fade Cue will affect attributes like opacity, image position, and object geometry. This versatility means that the available options for a Fade Cue will change depending on the type of a cue it targets. Since we are focusing on audio in this section of the book, this chapter will detail the differing functions of the Fade Cue for audio purposes only.
