Breac-Ghaeltacht Partly Irish-speaking district, usually with English predominant. Officially defined in 1926 as those whose census returns showed 25-79 per cent Irish speakers. Almost entirely demoted to Galltacht (q.v.) in 1956. The term remains in popular use for any weak Gaeltacht district.
