ABSTRACT
Popularization implies a process whereby knowledge passes from an enclosed esoteric context to a more open space accessible to all. The word also suggests that a qualitative transformation occurs in the course of this transition: the knowledge becomes simplified and coarsened. Popularization is often thought synonymous with vulgarization.
