ABSTRACT

Most countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America share a common history, that of colonialism. The colonialist experience modified to a large extent the socio-economic systems of these countries, reorienting them from internally-oriented to externally determined systems.(1)Political independence was thought to be the major step in building strong, developed, national economies. Development became the first priority in the post-independence period. The present social structures of Third World reflects this specific history and the priority given to development after independence.
