ABSTRACT
In this chapter we take up where we left off in the previous one. We show how the problem referred to there – that not all individuals offered a treatment may accept it – is linked to our earlier discussion of the role of instrumental variables and selection. As we explain later in this chapter, the fact that there is an element of choice in most treatment problems enables us to show the connections between models of treatment effects and the selection models we covered in Chapter 21.
