ABSTRACT
My first major mission on behalf of peace in the Middle East took place in late October 1973, when the guns of the October War had barely been silenced by an uneasy ceasefire. I had only been Foreign Minister for a few weeks when President Anwar Sadat asked me to go to the United States as his special envoy to President Nixon.
