ABSTRACT

The guiding principle of working-class training in West Germany is ‘utilitarianism’. Today, the utilitarian concept, originally formulated as a fundamental constituent of Enlightenment thought, means that a significant period of the socialization of the majority of young people is determined primarily, and to a high extent, by economic usefulness and profitableness.
