ABSTRACT
We have analyzed translingual practices in the largely micro-level contexts of conversations, literacies, and classrooms in the previous chapters. Though there is value in analyzing power negotiations ground-up from these interactions, it is unwise to ignore the macro-level contexts of communication. In this chapter, we expand our orientation to the geopolitical contexts of texts and talk. Translinguals often adopt strategies to reconfigure contexts to suit the negotiation of codes. We will consider how power, identities, and language ideologies are negotiated in translocal spaces, and the implications that they have for the ways in which English is taken up, given value, and gains indexicality.
