ABSTRACT

I took piano lessons for 5 years when I was young. I didn’t realize until much later what an amazingly sensitive and accepting teacher I had. Looking back, I recognize that what I learned (besides how to play the piano rather poorly) was behavior I saw my teacher Mrs. Cox model: patience, warmth, flexibility, tact, understanding, and wisdom in setting and achieving goals. Shouldn’t these same qualities apply to the effective psychotherapist?
