ABSTRACT

This study investigated the contribution a wiki can make to the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of teachers in one area of their professional practice, specifically dyslexia. A case study approach examined participation, interaction and learner satisfaction of participants in a wiki over an initial three-week period. Twenty-nine teachers joined a wiki, which was facilitated by a specialist dyslexia teacher. Results indicated that teachers had the requisite technical skills to access the wiki. They indicated a preference for a constructivist learning environment but felt that the wiki fell short of their ideal. The level of participation and the interaction between participants in the wiki was limited, although a few participants were exceptions to this observation. Qualitative data suggested that the wiki succeeded in providing CPD for teachers, using a range of media within a constructivist framework.
