ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the potential contribution of the social web to e-learning systems via the use of social bits, or pieces of data acquired from a person's online social activity. The social bits of an international sample of 121 participants were analysed in order to examine any links between social networking site use and personality characteristics and learning styles. A number of significant results were found, suggesting that this relationship could be useful in intelligent and adaptive e-learning systems. The novel methodology used and the practical implications for online learning are discussed.
