ABSTRACT

Projects are a ubiquitous form of socio-economic activity. They always have been. The building of pyramids and the construction of medieval cathedrals were enormous projects, as was the building of canal and railway systems during the Industrial Revolution or, more recently, sending Apollo modules to the moon, setting up North Sea drilling platforms and constructing the Channel Tunnel. Of a different tenor, the masques of Inigo Jones for King Charles Ist and Millennium celebration programmes are also projects among the many examples that can be chosen.
