ABSTRACT

The transformation from a planned to a market economy is a complicated and intricate process, even within a single sector such as the cotton industry. Therefore, the presentation is here split in two distinct halves. The preceding part of the book analyzed the cotton sector’s system transformation in two research locales in broad strokes and largely adopted a top-down perspective on policy implementation. Part III, on the other hand scrutinizes in more detail the institutional changes involved in systemic transformation. This entails a switch from a more top-down approach to systemic transformation to an interactive perspective on institutional change.
