ABSTRACT
I pause before The Broom Closet out of language curiosity and because this is a selfproclaimed “witches shop” in Old Salem Village, Massachusetts, USA,1 legendary and infamous home to witches both real and imagined, to witch trials real and reenacted,2
now a postmodern historical site3 constructed out of a past that never was quite as culturally dressed up and commercially successful as it is now. So I open the door.
