ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the policy and legislative framework for the protection of the built heritage in Ireland. It highlights key aspects of current legislation and policy and notes stages in its development. The account given here is not, of course, a legal interpretation and the focus is on developments in statute law rather than on case law relating to the protection of the built heritage.
