ABSTRACT

Any attempt to discuss the state of Anglo-Canadian relations in the context of 'Public Images and Perceptions' must, in all honesty, begin by acknowledging that this most nebulous topic has already been analysed with great insight by John Holmes in his article of some years back on 'The Anglo Canadian Neurosis'. The only conceivable excuse for this second innings is that, whereas that essay was written from a Canadian viewpoint, the present chapter inevitably presents a British perspective.
