ABSTRACT

Art therapy is a field in which social issues and art making merge. Although problems are most often addressed at a personal level, the artwork created in art therapy by the client or therapist can become a catalyst for social transformation (Alter-Muri, 1998; Hocoy, 2007; Junge, Alvarez, Kellogg, & Volker, 1993; Kapitan, 1997; Moon, 2002). Change begins within the person who creates the artwork, but the message of the work can reach a larger audience through public exhibition.
