ABSTRACT

The problem-solving team plays a critical role in recommending appropriate, empirically validated interventions and assuring those interventions are implemented with integrity. Because well-validated interventions are selectively applied and these strategies are individually tailored, most students respond by demonstrating behavioral improvements. The standard Tier II interventions are generic but may be adapted to address individual student needs. Though these Tier II interventions are always tailored to the students’ presenting difficulties, Tier II is different in kind from Tier III interventions, which are most often created from the ground up to address a specifically identified behavioral function. Behavioral contracts have proven to be an effective means of improving student behaviors for several decades.
