ABSTRACT

A resource book for counselor education is not complete without some discussion about and direction for online teaching influenced by the increased use of distance learning technologies. Online course work offers better access, convenience, and flexibility (Conceiçáo, 2007) for students pursuing a counseling degree. A quality online course does not simply emerge by converting and placing traditional classroom materials online. Design and delivery of online coursework, therefore, calls for rethinking the role of the learner, instructor, and the design within the new medium (Conceiçáo, 2007). This chapter will provide readers with an overview of online instruction, including strengths and weaknesses, guidelines for online course development, and guidelines for course management once the class is up and running.
