ABSTRACT

There are a number of similarities in the works of Blake and Nietzsche. Both wrote dithyrambic verse as well as rhyme. Both believed in the superabundance of creative energy. Both philosophised with a hammer. Both wrote prophetic books as a result of living in a destitute age. Both had backgrounds of religious conservatism and both thought that their attitude towards religion and creativity was an annihilation or an overcoming of Selfhood. It is with some justification that Blake has been called Nietzschean and Nietzsche a Romantic.
