ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the longer term effects of pre-school on children’s academic and social behavioural outcomes across Key Stage 2 up to age 11 years in primary school. It investigates the lasting impact of different features of preschool experience including quality and duration and also explores the influence of primary school using measures of primary school academic effectiveness. It shows how the influences of pre-school and primary school in combination can help to mediate the effects of disadvantage.
