ABSTRACT

The main purpose of maintaining bound print collections is to preserve and promote access to the content for archival, historical, and research purposes.

A library needs to establish consistent collection development processes based on its operating budget and its patron’s needs. There are many issues in collection development. Collection development includes collections maintenance. Collection maintenance involves serials management. Serials management includes purchasing, record maintenance, processing, and preservation. Any library will benefi t from having a written collection development policy in place that is subject to regular review and revision.1
