ABSTRACT
Binding accomplishes three important goals; binding preserves, combines, and collates serials, typically in volume order and volume sets. A properly bound volume has a longer expected shelf life. Retrieval is simplifi ed because the entire volume is in a single, bound volume. Because the issues are collated, security issues, record maintenance, and record storage are lessened, which is signifi cant because library service is based on accurate item records.
