ABSTRACT

While there were heated debates about whether Sadat failed or succeeded in his peace policies – debates which have continued to this day – even his closest supporters would not claim that he accomplished his aim of transforming the Egyptian economy and bringing a better life to the ever-increasing millions of his people. However, it is doubtful whether the failure was as complete as sadat’s critics claim. They give Sadat little credit for undoing some of the damage perpetrated by Nasser’s ‘socialist’ policies which included the exclusion of the country’s most productive elements.
