ABSTRACT

The international migration of sports talent into, out of, and within Latin America has been for some time and remains today a significant phenomenon. Unfortunately, with minor exceptions (cited below), no studies, especially of a quantitative or geographical nature, have been done to document and evaluate the nature and impact of these movements. Therefore, my intention here is to sketch out those areas over the last century where I believe the most migration has occurred and in so doing to highlight various intra-and extra-regional forms of such migration. I likewise suggest some future research topics and raise a few questions about the theoretical implications of the sport talent migration theme in Latin American history.
