HALL, FLORENCE (1888-1952) The head of the Women’s Land Army (WLA) in World War II, Florence Hall, supervised this quasi-governmental group of female farm workers-which, by the war’s end, had attracted more than one million women. Most worked part-time, usually during harvests, when they picked crops ranging from Vermont apples to California zucchini.
