ABSTRACT

When we interpret some happening, we categorize it through the use of concepts. Concepts organize reality for us. As Prinz (2002) says, concepts are the cognitive mechanisms by which we categorize and structure the world.1 Concepts, like the concept of dog or automobile, act as mechanisms to direct classifi cation as concepts are the basis for classifi cation. We apply concepts to carve up the world into classes which are the foundation on which knowledge is built.
