ABSTRACT
Today's Jews of the former Soviet Union are a striking example of demographic decline: The demographic evolution of the Soviet Jewish population is characterized by accelerated erosion over a long period: deaths increasingly exceeding births, dramatic aging, unbalanced sex ratios, and more intermarriage than inmarriage. As of the 1970s these phenomena were accompanied by large-scale emigration from the USSR.
