Production for Subsistence and for the Market: the Dual Role of the African Household

The study has so far focused largely on whether and how potential access to food at a given level of household resources is actually used to increase food consumption at household level. The nature of this access (e.g. cash income from wage labour, proceeds from the sale of produce or production for subsistence) has not been discussed in any detail and has so far been mentioned only in the context of the bargaining positions of household members.
