The GMS and foreign policy: The China–Vietnam dimension and border cooperation

This chapter is devoted to the exploration and examination of Vietnam’s and China’s foreign policies as they become manifest in cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). Both local and global dimensions of these foreign policies are analysed, along with the effects of their dual character on GMS cooperation. Water cooperation is of relevance again, especially in the sections on Vietnam and the issues this raises for Vietnam’s relations with China.
