ABSTRACT

The two landmark Arab-Israeli wars, 1967 and 1973, were separated by six years-years that saw profound strategic changes in the structure of the Arab political and social environment. Although many of these changes were inherently local and national in origin, they were undoubtedly infl uenced by events well beyond Arab regional borders. The impact of international affairs during these years was universal as the Cold War intensifi ed and the war in Vietnam saw an increasingly desperate US administration resorting to covert military operations and deepening involvement in South East Asia.
