ABSTRACT
There is an old story about a Hasid and an apikores (heretic) who get into an argument over the question of whether God actually caused the Red Sea to part, allowing the children of Israel to flee Pharaoh. ‘What proof do you have that God really performed such a miracle?’ goads the apikores. The Hasid retorts, ‘Nu du zayst doch!’ (roughly, ‘Well, you can see for yourself!’).
