ABSTRACT

In summer of 2006, Los Angeles Times science and environment writers Kenneth Weiss and Usha Lee McFarling and photographer Rick Loomis (2006) published a five-part series for their newspaper that described the bad condition of the oceans caused by toxins, pollution, chemical imbalances, and numerous other problems. The series caused considerable reaction on the part of readers and served to educate Southern California about the condition of the Pacific Ocean and the world’s other oceans and seas.
