ABSTRACT

THE carrier pigeons were nothing but a source of trouble. Either they had not been sufficiently trained, or they forgot the way back to their station at El Arish. When the first pigeons were sent off, one returned within a few days with the cylinder containing the code message still attached to his leg. It had evidently been wandering around in the vicinity of Athlit the whole time. The next lot were hardly any better, and Sarah and Yosef told Aaron not to send any more. They did not think the pigeons were worth the danger involved, and it would be impossible in any case to place them at the strategic points throughout the country that Aaron had requested.
