ABSTRACT

In this chapter and the next, sexually violent men talk about their crimes, themselves, and their victims.· Rather than focusing on the individual motives of men who rape, the object here is to examine how sexually violent men construct reality and how social and cultural factors contribute to these constructions. Together, these two chapters will demonstrate that, regardless of how brutal their behavior, from the perspective of these men, almost no act is rape and no man a rapist. But first, a brief introduction to the concepts that are used to organize rapists' accounts.
