ABSTRACT

Sikhism refers to the way of life of those who call themselves Sikh, the way of life that embraces equality for all human beings and disapprove every form of discrimination on the basis of caste, race, and gender. Although the etymology of the word Sikh can be traced to the Sanskrit sisya or its Pali derivation Sekkha, the Punjabi term Sikh refers to the followers of Guru Nanak, his nine successors and their teachings embodied in the Guru Granth Sahib or the sacred scripture of the Sikhs.
