ABSTRACT

Sadly, there are likely to be children in your school who are being abused. They may choose to tell you, as a trusted person, about their unhappiness and mistreatment, or they may not. Support staff are often working closely with children, sometimes in intimate situations, and so may be in the ‘front line’ in detecting abuse. This chapter will explore how to recognise the signs and how best to respond to protect children. It will examine your role and responsibilities, and explain how to protect yourself from false accusations of abuse at work.
