ABSTRACT

Life. Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) spent his entire life in the East Prussian city of Königsberg, now Kaliningrad. His father was a craftsman and a pietist, and Kant was in many ways marked by a pietistic Protestantism. Externally, his life was simple. He started as a tutor and ended as a professor. His lifestyle was punctilious and unvarying to the point of pedantry. His lift was devoted to his theoretical pursuits. His three critiques are important: the Critique of Pure Reason (1781), the Critique of Practical Reason (1788), and the Critique of Judgment (1790). Of interest J r his political theory are Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysic of Morals (Grundlegung zur Metaphysik der Sitten’ (1785]) and Perpetual Peace (1795).
