This chapter will be relevant to FM2: British and American Film – Producers and Audiences for the WJEC AS level in Film Studies. However, you should note that the emphasis in the WJEC syllabus is on contemporary Hollywood and, strictly speaking, you are not being asked to investigate the Hollywood of the past in anything like the detail offered here. However, if you have the time for the reading and/or research, understanding where contemporary Hollywood has come from helps you to make greater sense of the current configuration of the American industry.
