ABSTRACT
To the journalist the term ‘minder’ refers to a soul who deserves much sympathy and understanding – the official whose task it is to interpose himself between the media and the military – to act as a buffer. It seems to have a rather juvenile connotation, indeed the Concise Oxford Dictionary defines the term as ‘one who attends to something … particularly a child’. Some observers may not find this entirely inappropriate.
