ABSTRACT

As more and more words are typed every day on computer keyboards, laptops, mobile phones and so on, the point of punctuation is increasingly obvious: it helps writers get their message across clearly and emphatically. The faster and more frenetic the pace of communication, the more critical it is to organise what you write and make it clear. If you don’t bother with punctuation you risk being misunderstood – maybe even ignored. Post a great wodge of unpunctuated text on a website in the middle of a series of pithy comments and people are likely to scroll down past your message to the next one that’s easily understood.
