ABSTRACT

Most teachers and parents, particularly in secondary schools, are extremely pleased when students show an interest in their own learning. Most teachers are also ready to assist parents to play an active part in their child’s education and schooling. This is particularly true of teachers who are themselves, or have recently been, parents of teenagers. So why is day-to-day, detailed parental involvement uncommon in primary schools (despite what many might think) and extremely rare in the secondary school context?
