ABSTRACT

The leader’s viewpoint is a privileged one. This is particularly true for teachers in the classroom and for senior leaders – especially head teachers – in the whole school situation. Those leaders who are aware of, and who accept, this fact, will use their unique freedom to act decisively in order to restore balance, or to satisfy the needs of particular team members. Fine judgement, a sense of timing, and an ability to retrospectively explore what has taken place, are all leadership traits.
