ABSTRACT
Judicialreview,constitutionalamendment,parliamentarystatute, executivevetoandthelike,areelements(evenincapitalistdemocracy)whichmitigateandabate,nolessthandisguisethebasisof politicaldomination.Thattheseactivitiesofdemocracyaretakenas aconsequenceofthepotentialpowerofvariousrevolutionarycurrentsinsocietyis,itwouldseem,justasstronganargumentforincreasingthesensitivityofdemocracytorevolutionaryapproachesas itisforattemptingareturntoprimordialmodesofsettlingsocialand economicantagonisms.ContrarytoSorel'sinsistence,areasonable defenceofdemocracywouldnotrestuponsubterfugeandreformism,butwouldshowtheessentialsufficiencyofpoliticaldemocracy foreventhemostradicalfar-reachingtransformationsintheeconomicinstitutionsofhumansociety.Thedegreeofdemocraticsafeguardspossibleinagivenrevolutionarycontextisanempiricalquestion,whichinnowaycancelsthevaluesofdemocracyinmodern societyassuch.Inpresentsocietythemethodologicalbaseofdemocracyiscriticism.Itisthesocialforceofpopularpower-potential andactual.
