Anyone who has worked in a fast food restaurant, factory, or for that matter has been a student or teacher in a public school understands something about Taylorism, a regime of work control that is characterized by standardization, routinization, and simplifi cation of tasks; coercion rather than consent; speed ups; and lack of intellectual or skilled content.
