ABSTRACT

Keaten et al. (1997) developed 24 statements intended to reflect six dimensions (based on the five canons of rhetoric): feelings of anxiety, knowledge of communication topics, timing skills, organization of thoughts, delivery skills, and memory skills. Respondents use a 6-point Likert-type response scale to indicate their degree of agreement with each statement. Respondents require just a few minutes to complete the scale.

Reliability and validity information is sparse. A coefficient alpha of .95 was reported for an earlier version, with reliabilities of the dimensions ranging from .80 to .92 (cited in Keaten et al., 1997). Face and content validity information has been provided in the original description, as has some concurrent validity data.
