ABSTRACT

Research has consistently looked at student misbehaviors in the classroom, but Kearney, Plax, Hays, and Ivey (1991) reasoned that teacher misbehaviors might affect learning, as well. Kearney et al. were interested in finding teacher behaviors that might interfere with instruction and learning. Accordingly, they conducted two studies to develop this scale. Study 1 was designed to solicit college student reports of these misbehaviors, and Study 2 focused on examining the factor structure of the categories. The premise of having students complete the scale is that attributions of misbehavior are just as real as actual misbehaviors and that the best observers are students in the classroom.
